Hello,
Paige at ASCO received a request from the associate dean for health professions advising at Tufts. I'm forwarding it along if anyone is interested in sharing something for the June "Advisor" issue. Please read the request below...
Dear colleagues,
My hope is to focus the June issue of the Advisor on diversity and inclusion. Articles will be due May 1. I would very much like to have a variety of health professions represented and so am reaching out to you now.
What might you or someone in your profession submit?
• An overview of efforts/successes in your profession in addressing diversity
• A particular school that has developed an innovative cultural competency curriculum
• A successful pipeline or summer or other program that has positively impacted diversity in a school or the profession at large
• Activities of a professional association within your field – perhaps African American, perhaps LGBT, perhaps disabled practitioners – that are of note
• Research into diversity and inclusion in your profession and how it is impacting patient care
These need not necessarily be original articles. There may be something in your literature that is worth our reprinting for advisors.
I plan to have an article on the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) funded by Robert Wood Johnson. As you know its aim is to increase diversity and while it started as just medicine, expanded to dentistry, it now includes a large number of health professions. This shift was partly due to the urging of its National Advisory Board on which I sit, along with Jen Adams of this Advisory Council. We are both very excited about the change.
Please let me know if you have questions, or put someone in your organization or at one of your schools in touch with me if they are interested in submitting a piece for this issue. I look forward to working together.
Regards,
