  • Future Faculty Program Application window is NOW OPEN!!

    Dear Residents and Graduate Students:

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a career in academia?

Here is a quick preview of the benefits!

    1. Extremely rewarding to educate and inspire the future of our profession
    2. Spend time focused on your specific passion and patient base
    3. Work in a supportive environment with expert colleagues just down the hall
    4. Enjoy flexibility of time and the ability to explore professional interests beyond patient care
    5. Pursue opportunities in teaching , research, service, and/or mentoring

If this sounds intriguing, we would love for you to participate in the Future Faculty Program (FFP) hosted by the Association for Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO). FFP is a mentored program taking place virtually from January through March 2024 and beginning with an on-line orientation on December 13, 2023.

The program is appropriate for both those considering clinical teaching positions and those seeking research oriented faculty positions.

    In this program, you will:

    1. Understand the benefits of working in academia
    2. Learn how to successfully navigate a career that centers around teaching and/or research
    3. Learn how to prepare to interview for an academic job
    4. Learn about promotion criteria, developing your CV, and giving effective presentations
    5. Learn about teaching and assessment, working in research, and work-life balance
    6. Receive asynchronous instruction and also spend synchronous time in small group with an assigned mentor

Synchronous sessions will be held biweekly. The schedule and topics are detailed below.

Mentorship assignments will officially last for 1 year but may informally continue throughout your career! You will be awarded a certificate upon successful completion of this program.
